Multiple Teams · Track Competes at Sandcrab Relays

Despite being shorthanded with several key athletes preparing for basketball playoff games and fighting cold temps and a blustery wind, the Exporter and Lady Exporter track teams still managed to score well and bring home several medals from the Sandcrab Relays at Port Lavaca Calhoun HS on Thursday, February 20.

Leading the way for the boys, and bringing home the plaque for HIGH POINT ATHLETE, was David Gomez who finished 3rd in the 3200m (11:03.458), 3rd in the 1600m (4:59.43), and 1st in the 800m (2:11,149) for a total of 22 points.

Close behind David, was Cornell Brown who accounted for 20 points with 1st place finishes in the 110m HH (16.56) and the 300M IH (42.00).

Also medaling for the boys were Devin Escamilla with a 1st place finish in Pole Vault and Eddie Flores whose 41’4″ effort in Triple Jump was good for a 2nd place finish.  Also scoring points were the 4x200m Relay, Pablo Marin (200m), Kariyen Goins (Long Jump), Peter Aluiso (Shot Put & Discus), and Manuel Acuna (800m).

Leading the varsity girls was Jocelyn Royston with a 2nd place discus throw of 82’2″ and the Girls’ 4×200 Relay finishing 3rd.  The Girls’ 4×100 Relay also put points on the board.

For the JV Boys, Dominique Vizia brought home a 3rd place medal in High Jump with the 4×100 Relay, 4×200 Relay, Elim Castro (100m), and Derian Corchado (1600m) also scoring points.  The JV Girls were led by Sierra Williams who finished 2nd in the 100m.

Exporter Track and Field will be back in action next Friday, February 28, at Needville for the Blue Jay Relays.
